Indonesia. Maluku, New Guinea. Lowland primary and secondary forest. It has also recorded from hill forest on

Comments and Curiosities

Conservation: C. heteracanthus is present in a variety of ecoregions, the most threatened of which is the Vogelkop-Aru lowland rain forests, where logging concessions overlap with protected areas. C. heteracanthus is present in the Brown River Forest Reserve (specimen Zieck, J. 36106), the Misool Selatan nature reserve, the Teluk Cendrawasih national park and the Wondiwoi nature reserve. This species does not appear to be cultivated, it is not listed on CITES and seeds are not known to have been collected for ex-situ conservation purposes. IUCN Red Listing Least Concern.
