Habitat and Distribution

Kentiopsis pyriformis grows on ultramafic rocks, often on unstable steep slopes. This palm ranges from along the east coast of New Caledonia south of Yate, where it occurs in a fringe of forest 20km long an 100-500m wide from Touaourou to Goro villages at 5-100m elevation. The main population is at Goro on steep, unstable rocky slope above the mouth of the Kuebini River

Subcanopy to emergent palm. Trunk 10-18m tall. Sometimes enlarged or buldging at the base, adventious roots visible
