Formerly important as 'vegetable ivory,' this rarely seen pinnate palm has a submerged or creeping trunk, and its glossy green, elegantly arching leaves have up to 100 leaflets per side. The large and hard fruits are carried at ground level. The Ivory Palm is fast growing under warm, humid conditions and will make a fascinating addition to the tropical or warm subtropical garden.
