Habitat and Distribution

Borneo, Malaya, Sumatera. Rainforest. [[]]

Description

An acaulescant clumping palm with long, erect leaves up to 2.5m tall, and very spiny petioles. The leaflets are born in clusters along the rhachis.

Culture

Warm, sheltered and moist. Can tolerate temperatures down to 3°C., but will sustain significant damage. Cold Hardiness Zone: 9b

Comments and Curiosities

Produces an edible fruit which is sweet, tho slightly tart, and has a brown, scaly skin.
