Description

A solitary or clustering pinnate palm, to about 5 m, erect stem 4 m. Leaflets are glaucous-green on the underside, and 5 cm in diameter, Pinnate, with leaf sheath forming a well defined crownshaft. 5 - 22 (occasionally as few as 2) linear leaflets per side. Fruit: Ovoid to ellipsoid, up to 1.3 cm long and 1.0 cm wide, black when mature. Editing by edric.

A smallish, clustering palm with green, cane-like stems and beautiful yellow crownshafts, that is native to rainforests on the Malay Peninsula at medium altitudes. (RPS.com)

Pinanga scortechinii var. shamsiah: A new discovery from rainforests on the Malay peninsula, that differs from the regular form by its few, very wide, drooping leaflets. (RPS.com)
