Common Name: Smooth Loulu Palm

Pritchardia glabrata is one of the more ornamental of Pritchardias and grown far too rarely in California. It is one of the shortest of the Pritchardia but has large, deep green, flat leaves with nicely drooping leaflets at their tips. Often sold and grown under synonym Pritchardia lanaiensis.

Appearance and Biology
  • Habit: solitary with a crown of 8-10 fan leaves
  • Height: 6' estimate
  • Trunk: single; 8"-10" thick; often covered with leaf bases in California
  • Crownshaft: none
  • Spread: 10'
  • Leaf Description: palmate; heavily pleated; deep green; divided up to 1/2 their length; semicircular; leaflets drooping at the tips; 5' long (blade 3' long)
  • Petiole/Leaf bases: 2' long; unarmed; un-split leaf bases
  • Reproduction: monoecious
  • Inflorescence: 3'-5' long; from within leaves
  • Fruit: spherical to ovoid; 1.2" long; black when ripe
