Roystonea borinquena Lemon Grove, CA. These palms are both in flower as of 2009

Habitat and Distribution

Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and the islands of St. Croix and Vieques in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Description

Thick white to tan trunk often with buldge at it's midpoint. 5 foot tall crownshaft with 15 foot long plumose leaves.

Culture

Full sun, lots of water, and as much heat as you can throw at them. Unlike most palms, these do not need good drainage and actually prefer a heavy clay soil with plenty of water in it.
