Sumatara. Moist mid-altitude forests of Sumatra.

Description

"This is a monoecious palm, fast, suckering, fairly easy to grow, and which likes wet humid conditions in deepshade." (Dr. John L. Dowe).

"Attractive densely clustering species of bifid, or irregularly split pinnate palm from Sumatra, in which the leaves are mottled, especially in the younger plants." (Geoff Stein) Editing by edric.

This is a monoecious palm, fast, clutering, fairly easy to grow, and which likes wet humid conditions in deepshade. Cold Hardiness Zone: 10b

Comments and Curiosities

A smallish, clustering palm with broadly pinnate, beautifully and intensely mottled leaves, native to montane rainforests on the island of Sumatra. A surprisingly easy and fast growing palm for the understory of the tropical garden. (RPS.com)
