Comments and Curiosities

The Golden Licuala (Licuala aurantiaca) is a new, recently described species from Thailand, where it grows in coastal swamp forest. It is now synonymous to Licuala paludosa, it has a robust, clustering habit, with short stems and palmate leaves with few segments, and in its easy-care nature. What particularly sets the Golden Licuala apart and makes it a very desirable ornamental are its vividly orange colored leafsheaths and stalks. It is best suited to warm subtropical and tropical areas and needs plenty of water to grow well. (RPS.com)

Thai species of solitary understory palm with deeply divded and widely separated fan leaves- basically parallel leaflet strips ending in pinking shear-like tips. Rare in cultivation. (Geoff Stein)
