Habitat and Distribution

Malaysia. Southern Peninsular Malaysia, Sungai Kayu, Johore, in the hills at the banks.

Description

Palm, acaulescent, short. Petiole 60-70 cm. long, especially toward the base to the reddish, only near the base BENT BACKWARD thorns removed, 1-2 mm. longis armed. segments 5 leaves, very rarely 6-7, unequal, middle 10-14 ribbed, 20-25 cm. long, apex 8-10 cm. broad, superficial obtuseque dentate, cuneatissimum, sessile, the other 3-5 ribbed, lower middle, obliquely erose-off, arched cuneate. BROWN petiole shorter two or three times, with the base peduncle about 20 cm. long dark-furfuraceous, spatula 3-4 Tubular wearer, supported by the tip that the partial inflorescence 2-3, simple or bifurcate, furfuraceous, 3-4.5 cm. long divided. The flowers in the spore balls 1-3, after having removed alternately or spirally arranged, sessile, inconspicuous pillow. calyx furfuraceous, pubescent, the lobes deeply SHARP partitus. Corolla little longer than the calyx, pubescent, the lobes high, tipped divided. Staminal six filaments in the ring subulate abruptly disconnected. Gllibrum ovary; carpels usually 1-2 or more often all evolved. fruit elongate-clavate, often curved a little, about 22-23 mm long. long, 3.5 - 4 · 5 mm. in the diameter; conformity with the seed, completely with a bony; ditch integumentali embryo dorsal base objects, apex soon ascedente cylindrical. This species is very peculiar in the genus in that it has very long fruits borne on a compound spadix. The only other species known to produce such long fruits is L. mattanensis. from Borneo, which however is characterised by many-lobed leaves, a simple, unbranched spadix having almost pedicellate flowers, and the integumental process in the seed situated on the same side as the embryo (not opposite the embryo as is L. mattanensis.
