Habitat and Distribution

Attalea oleifera is found in Brazil Northeast, Brazil Southeast.
Pernambuco, NE Brazil, Gileno Machado.
Low To Mid Elevation Coastal Forest.

Description

Height: Up to 30 m (100 ft) Growth Habit: Solitary, Growth Rate: Slow, Trunk Type: No Crownshaft, Columnar Light Brown, Smooth With Age, Trunk Diameter: Up to 400 mm (16") Leaf Type: Pinnate, Leaf Size: Up to 8 m (26 ft) Leaf Color: Dark Green, Self Cleaning: No. Reproduction: Monoecious, Fruit Description: Up to 110 mm (4.5") Obovoid. Culture

Sunny, moist position. Requirements: Full Sun. Consistently Moist, Fast Draining soil. Watering: Regular, Min. Temp: 0°C (0°F) Tolerances: Full Sun, Poor Soils, Germination: 3-12+ Months, 25-30°C (77-86°F).

Quote from Gileno Machado, "Upon a closer inspection, the fruits are much smaller than the regular Attalea oleifera I've seen and these palms are taller and have much thicker trunks too."

Uses: (Leaves) Local Animal Grazing, Poor Regeneration/Reproduction, Soil Quality, Sun Exposure, Native Uses: Cosmetics, (Mesocarp Oil). Food Source, (Kernel Oil). Thatching.
