Comments and Curiosities
Details aside; this species is accepted by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
"I did some research and looked in my Gentes Herbarium Book dated October 1963. It's a revision of the Genus Copernicia. In it , it states, Copernicia sueroana was originally described by Leon (1931) as a hybrid between C. rigida and C. hospita. In 1936, he decided this was not a hybrid and after all and subsequently changed it's status to a species. At present(1963) the author then states there is inconclusive evidence that it is a hybrid. For the life of me, I can't see any resemblance to it having C. rigida as one of it's parent. This palm has very long petioles and the leaves look nothing like C. rigida. C. hospita, I'm not too sure either, but it could be possible. There's no silver/blue color to the leave that C. hospita typically has. So, I'm not convinced."
