Common Name: Yellow Latan Palm

Latania verschaffeltii is another fairly marginal fan palm for California, but those growing plants in 'perfect' microclimates seem to be able to eke this one along. All the Latanias have fairly limited 'cool tolerance' which makes them fairly poor choices as landscape palms in California. There are yet to be any to make it to maturity and some have been growing this genus for over 20 years. This one, as the name suggests, has some yellow coloration, at least in its juvenile form. Adult palms in the tropics tend to be fairly grey, though do have a hint of coloration, at least relative to Latania loddigesii, the most commonly grown species as a landscape palm.
